Post 9: Changes to my Study Programme

Hi guys!

  Today I talk about of the changes to my study programme. My academic load has better thing and bad things, one bad thing is that we don’t too much money resources and sometimes we don’t do somethings like to do, but we have great teachers that know really much of the Forestry and they guide us to make some projects. One thing good is that we travel very much, for this reason is likes me this career because I love travel, although sometimes the practice is very hard, and for the scarce resources we have to eat bread all the time, but we are accustomed and carry with us some food to survive. Some subject I have this semester was: Forest dynamic, Finance and Marketing, Workshop leadership, properties physical and chemical of wood, Forestry ecosystem insects, Develop and application of models, Workshop of plants propagation and the Forest like source NTFP. This semester we learn to use one object to measure the height of trees with laser called Vertex, that is very useful for to do the inventory, especially for the speed and efficiency.

 I don’t like the teaching methods of some teachers, I think that to learn is not necessary memorise, because in this form the concept was lost really quickly, I preferred the method of the practice to learn, that give more result, but is difficult to put in the activities because, but they could be a try.  In spite of hard work, this year I learn a lot J

Post 8: Summer Holidays

Hi Bloggers!

Today I talk about to the summer Holidays. I really need some Summer Holidays... My semester is completed at the 1st of January, and I think work this month for join money to get out to some place. I was think to get employment at the new cinema that build near of my house and I think to learn to drive a car the weekends. With respect to the place I want go, I think in the south of Chile, specially Pucon or Villarica, because my grandparents, my aunts and uncles lives there, or La Union where live one aunt. but all depends of how money I won. 

I would like to visit some Nacional Parks that I don't know like Villarica (where you can climb the volcano), Puyehue, Hornopiren and others. Always coupled of my family and my boyfriend. 

 One of my dreams is visit “Campos de Hielo (North and South)” I hope one I visit this beautiful place, because for this is necessary so much money, it was a really fantastic vacations.

I would like to do activities like trekking, rafting, canopy, and others to do in the places I would want go.

 I would like one-day travel to other country, I never get out of Chile and I think is a really good experience to know new people and new cultures and others wonderlands, I would like to visit Machu Pichu for example.

Post 3: My Favorite TV show

Today I talk about my favourite TV show that is "El Secreto de Puente Viejo", a Spanish soap that was transmitted for "TVN Chile" during some time (until 3rd season), but currently the series is transmitted for "Antena 3" still, making it the longest series of the TV channel with five seasons in eight stages. the story was set at the first middle of the XX century, in a town called "Puente viejo", it deals about the life of the Montegro's family, whereby the matriarch of this family (Francisca Montenegro) is most powerful women of the region and her word is law. the conflict starts when her son "Tristán Castro" was fall in love of midlife of the town "Pepa Aguirre", but Francisca Montegro is disagree. Over time and the town grow up, new things and people comes. the union of Pepa and Tristán leave it two childrens Aurora and Gonzalo, whom have adventures and misfortunes the same of their parents.

 The most I like is the dress that use they, the scenography are very good archive. The scene that like me was when Aurora and Conrado (her boyfriend) meet again, because Aurora renounce to continue study medicine in Madrid to live in Puente Viejo.

 Nowadays, that soap isn’t transmitted in Chile, but it’s available online. I see it for internet now.

Post 7: Someone I'd like to meet

Hi everyone!

 Today I tell you about someone I would like to meet. Well I don't want to know anyone specially, but I admire some person because I believe that they make really good some activities. One of those is Johnny Deep. He is a really amazing and versatile actor mainly, but he is a producer and musician too. He was born in Owensboro, Kentucky, USA. He has interpreted some main characters like Edward Scissorhands, Ichabod Crane (Sleepy Hollow), Jack Sparrow, Willy Wonka, Mad Hatter and others that are very dissimilar among them, and this is for he had several awards. And I hope to see him at the new movie “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”.

Other person I admire is a British musician (vocalist, guitarist, pianist and principal songwriter of the band “Muse”) Matt Bellamy. He was born in Cambridge, England, United Kingdom, and is a principal singer of my favourite band “Muse” with Chris Wolstenholme (bass guitar and backing vocals) and Dominic Howard (percussion). I admire him because he has a very special voice (he can achieve a high frequency) that sounds me a little bit to a Freddy Mercury, it should be they are British. And the other side the themes of him songs are very revolutionary and mix with the astronomy, this is a really freak combination, but sounds really great.

    If I know they someday, it was a miracle, but I don’t lose the faith. I hope you’re fine, Bye! 

Post 6: Postgraduate Studies

 Hi!

      Today, I tell you that postgrade I would like to do in the future. I'm still in the pregrade, but I think that for the jobs I would like to work, I need at least one postgrade for acquire more experience and learn new techniques for my future project. I very much young, but I would benefit the years for study, because I thing is a really good investment for the future.

      I hope very much do in other country, because I would like to know new customs of other people. I would like to study some of the conservation techniques or botanic, some elements that help me to develop in my future job. I think do in Canada because I have very much desire of know it, in the University of British Columbia, because the faculty of forestry it very beautiful and they have some programs for master in where they push the conservation and the science of international forestry.

      I would like to do in a part time course, I need work, because I don’t have so much money, but I think apply to a scholarship and with these support me some time.

      Well, for do this plans I need excellent marks and letter of recommendation of some teacher, also I had carried some activity on the university like internship and others for my curriculum.

My future Job

I would like to job in the south of Chile, because is a very beautiful place and I feel that I need stay in that place to be happy, this is a one reason for I studied forestry, because I love the forest. I like very much the part of my career related with forest nursery, I'm very interested in this area, because I think is a well contribution to the nature and the decrease of the greenhouse effect. I would like to have my own forest nursery and produce in a large scale.

 However, I like too the investigation area, because I like to discover new things that can be helpful to the people and the nature, but in that cause the best option is work at the INFOR (Instituto Nacional Forestal), is an institution of the state of Chile that work in investigation for help to little forest owners that want to enhance their productivity with the native forest, they make investigation and give it tools, for this I would have to prepare me and take a master’s degree, ideally in other country for learn new experience and other jobs skills. I would like to do in Canada, because they have a Faculty of forestry of extensive experience. Finally, I don’t decide still, anything can be happening, but I can be certain I have to work, I hope be great. 

Post 4: Election Day

This 23rd October, was the first time I voting. When I was a little girl I went with my mother to voting and she always tell me about the importance of this act. I think that voting is a responsibility that we have like a citizens and in my opinion the vote must be a mandatory, because all we have a duty the same we have rights.

 In my district had a 3 important candidate for mayor, the first was a current mayor and he went to the re-election "Christian Vittori", he was accused for many tax crimes and other about corruption, the other candidate was a woman "Kathy Barriga", she was represent a political group more conservator of Chile and she was tried for her past like dancer in a program TV, wherein she haunt in short clothes and for her mentally like a "Disney princess", The third candidate was a relatively new, he support the first candidacy of Vittori, but his political party remove the support this time, because he had very much problems with the justice, and then this party decided put in the candidate "Freddy Campusano".  Finally, who won this position was Kathy Barriga. I´m not very happy with this results, the politic in Chile are in a difficult time, because we have a few candidates that don't have problems with the justice, the corruption is a reality now and the people don't have a believer in the politics and theirs prefer don't vote.

Post 2: The Best Concert I've ever seen

I didn't go to the big concert, because when my favorite musical group or singers came to Chile, I wasn't have money, and it was really expensive. However, One day of indepence holiday, Los Bunkers, were in my neightborhood. This day I went with my best friend, his boyfriend and two friend more. We try to join in one site, but it was a lot of people, then we went into the enclosure, and we find us. The group arrived late, but when they starts all was dark, and suddenly one little red light in the depths of the stage started to blink, and then the music of " Bailando solo" was sound, All the people sang like a chorus. The people was crazy when they sing "Santiago de Chile". In a moment, the people was jumping and some people open the beer and let it drop to the others and I was with my hair by the smell of beer. Except of this, We had a great time and came to our house's very late.

Post 1: A country I would like to visit

I would like to visit Canada, I like this country a lot, because its people are very consciencious with the nature and the use of their residue and when I was a little girl I had to speak about this country. They are very extrict with the norms of the nature care, even they don't let live anyone in the country, They choose the people who live in this country very carefully (that follow the norms), it's a very peaceful country. Canada has a very cold weather in its winter, because it's in a opposite hemisfire than Chile, while they are in winter, we are in the summer. I would like to visit Toronto, Otawa, Montreal, vancouver and other cities, but the place I would like to get to know most is the Niagara parks butterfly Conservatory, that its a place in which they have over 2000 colourful tropical butterflies in a botanical park. Finally I would like to study a master or other postgrade in the University of British columbia, because they have the most beautiful faculty of forestry and their landscapes are wonderfull.

My name is Valeria Pinto, I'm 20 years and I study Forestry in the Universidad de Chile, I'm in the third year of my career. One of my weaknesses is the oral and written expression, I can to try in this curse improve this aspect. Isn't complicate for me understand that others says me in English or read text in English. I would like to know more thecnical vocabulary of my career for develop more this area.

Level 4 term 2 2016

NWFP (Non-wood forest products)

   For some years come to develop the idea that a forest is not only valuable for the potential timber productivity, today we know other applications and services that give us the forest and in some cases without cutting any tree, I speak of non-wood forest products.

Although it has been discussed there is no agreement on terminology to describe NWFP, however according to FAO it has adopted the following definition:

"Non-wood forest products consist of goods of biological origin other than wood, derived from forests, other wooded land and trees outside of forests"

Therefore we can say that are extracted forest products such as berries or fungi gourmet quality, as well as resins and tannins used in the chemical industry, among other products we can provide the woods ... then show you a list of NWFP:

• essential oils

• Leaves and branches (infusions, decoration, extraction of tannins)

• tannins

• Extraction of fungi and fruits (gastronomy)

• oleoresin (turpentine, adhesives, waxes), etc...

Depending on the species and the ecosystem in which is embedded the forest there are several NWFP in general the marketing of these products, except the chemical industry, it is quite casual for that is also difficult to quantify, because there is a lot of plants and animals that can be presented as NWFP resources.

one place I would like to visit

When I heard about the Fray Jorge nacional park, I wanted to visit, but I don't have enought money for travel. Fray jorge is a very special place because is a relict (or fossil) forest, which it's a exemplary of the Valdivia forest (evergreen forest), but in the north of chile, located in the Coquimbo region in the middle of  semiarid zone. All this is possible, because a dense fog called "camanchaca" rises up to the mountain from the sea and becomes trapped in the forest, it thus enables this place survive. This park protect some species of fauna like the humboldt penguin(Spheniscus humboldti), Culpeo Fox (Lycalopex culpaeus) and the chungungo(Lontra felina) and other species of flora like the tree "olivillo" (Aextoxicon punctatum) and creepers (epiphytic plants) like "medallita" (Sarmienta scandens) and "copihue" (Lapageria rosea).

  This place was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO and administered by CONAF. Entry is $2.500(CLP) for the adults and $1.300(CLP) for the children and youth.

A career-releated website

         One website releated with my career is www.infor.cl of the "Instituto Forestal", this have a lot of information about the forestry industry and other releated areas, It have stadisctics, inventory of forestry ecosistems, forestry library and proyects of the institution. They have a variety of investigation areas like the inventory and monitoring of the forestry ecosistems, economic and political forestry, silviculture and forestry management of native and exotic ecosistem, products and tecnology of wood. I like this site, because it's very helpful with their investigations and I have to read about my career, for homework also and for study. The institution belong to the ministery of agriculture of Chile and their information is recognized. I don't use this site always because they have a lot information, if I need numbers or percentage, I use this page. furthermore they have news and events about the forestry industry and the management of the native forestry, they have a journal "cifor"and they have volumes about theirs investigation which there a very interesting topics and finaly they have links of interest.

       My favorite photo is this: 

      This photo was taken for me, at the grandparents' home, because I simply love this place, for its beauty fresh greenness and absolutely peace. When I was in Pucon, one day of May, When we celebrated grandparents's aniversary of fifty years.  I decided to go out the home... and take photos with my new camera and when I was see the nature and I took hundreds of pictures, but this was my favorite, because it represent the place as it is I see. that's was perfect,

          This photo was taken at the same place, because the grandparents house is very big, this is the "Salto de los Copihues" and very few people know that exist, because is at the grange of my grandfather, and he is very old. my cousins and I went this summer and it didn't easy, the place are very covered with creepers and thee trunks, but finally we do it and take this beautiful picture of the south of Chile! 

The problem of air pollution

Today I talk about the contamination, more specifically the air pollution or smog... the other day I went to university and when I was walk I can´t inhale, because the air are very heavy. then when I was by the bus I watch all these cars and I throught of the enviromental damange to do, every day the people go by their cars, because the means of transport are REALLY BAD, and they are exausted to waiting for the traffic, but the damage is for ourselves. However we sick for this situation, in other words one problem conduced to other problem.
Sometimes I think that I can't do anything, but it is my hope that I can't try to reconect the people with the nature, Is the only solution for that we leave to contaminate our place and think of other solucions for a better cohabitation and be happy.

My favorite piece of technology

Hello... my favorite piece of technology is my laptop...This is a mobile device that used to thousand things, but without internet is very useless. It is really important for me because I use it to study, connect with my friends and my family that live far away, watch things to entertain, save information, and others. I bought my notebook when I was studying at the school that three or four years ago, and it helped me to do my homework and little by little I have learned some features of my PC. I use every day cause I needed to do my homework and check my email.

  I like it for the reason that is more comfortable than a desktop computer, I used when I was lie on the bed... My life without it was very bad, cause when I did do some homework I was a long time sitting up, I have backache and at winter was very cold...

My auto biography

Hi! my name is Valeria Pinto, I'm 19 years, I live in Santiago de Chile. I study Forestry at Uchile, and I'm in my second year. I live with my parents, my litle sister, my dog and temporaly with my grandfather ( I love my family... sometimes xD)
 I like to see the nature, this is a reason that I applied to my career, I love the music, sing and dance, and watch videos of recycle and DIY, I reuse things <3  and also I pratice the scrapbook... but the materials are very expensive for me.
  My favorite food are"humitas" specially those it make my aunt, but the pizza of my boyfriend is the best of the world.

Expectations for a new semester

My second year at university and the semester has been complicated because the subject are more difficult than the last year, I must learn stadistics and math II... and the integral calculus is something new for me. I try to learn this concepts but is really hard. Also I have a subject about growing and delveloment of the trees, this is very interesting because is a subject very related with my career and the same with estructure and functioning of ecosystem. 

          I'm taking an assistant professorship and work at the laboratory with the students of first year, my ocuppation is to teach them some things of the subject "CICBAE" and prepare the work surface. 

                I think the rest of semester I'll be more bussy, but happy because I´m doing what I love.
